1. be certain of [about] sth 對某事有把握或有信心。例如：

He’s certain of success. 他相信自己會成功。

Are you certain of [about] that? 你確定這一點嗎？

2. be certain to do sth 有些事情肯定會發生。例如：

She’s certain to pass the exam. 她肯定會通過考試。

Spring is certain to follow winter. 冬天過后一定是春天。

注：這種結構有時可用 I am certain that 轉換。例如：

He is certain to come. / I am certain that he will come. 他肯定會來的。

3. be certain of doing sth 確信會發生什么事。例如：

He is certain of winning the match. 他確信能贏得這場比賽。

注：該結構有時可與后接結構連接 that 從句型轉換。例如：

He is certain of passing the exam. / He is certain that hecan pass the exam. 她確信考試會通過。

4. for certain 確定，肯定。例如：

I don’t know for certain. 我知道得不準確。

I can’t say for certain when he will come. 我不敢肯定地說他什么時候來。

5. make certain 明確、確定、核實。例如：

(1) 單獨使用。例如：

I think the train leaves at six o’clock but you ought to make certain. 我覺得火車是六點開的，但是你應該找清楚。

(2) 后接 that 從句。如：

Make certain (that) you know what time the train leaves. 你需要弄清楚火車開出的確切時間。

(3) 后接 of 短語。如：

You must make certain of the date of the meeting. 你必須弄清楚會議的日期。

We went to the theatre early and made certain of getting seats. 為了得到座位，我們很早就去了劇院。

注：有時上述結構可以相互轉換。例如：

Make certain of his safe arrival. / Make certain that he arrived safe. 找出他是否安全到達。
