2、 to make the best of, 什么是“充分利用”？

Supervisor Bill Postmus tried to make the best of it all in his invocation: “Thank you for taking us out of the difficult times that we've had in the past, Lord.”

行政官員比爾·伯斯特默斯充分利用當前形勢 祈禱中說：“謝謝你是我們走出艱難時期的上帝。”

改譯：縣管委會委員 伯斯特默斯在祈禱中借機表示：“上帝，謝謝你讓我們擺脫過去的艱難時期。”

點評:原翻譯的問題在于短語make the best of的理解。是的，它的意思是“充分利用（時間、機會等）”，但不是“充分利用當前形勢”，而是“充分利用祈禱的機會”，所以改為“借機”。

其他翻譯要點：

1、supervisor：如果你不認識這個人，很難決定是“行政官員”還是“縣管委會委員”。不幸的是，作者沒有說他是如何確定這個詞的。
