1. take back 回收，接回，退回。例如：

I’m sorry, I take back what I said. 對不起，我收回了我說的話。

2. take down

4. take off

(2) 起飛。如：

(3) 折扣，扣除，去掉。例如：

Can you take five dollars off the price? 你能降價五美元嗎？

(4) 請假，休息。例如：

I want to take a day off (from work). 我想休假一天。

5. take on

(1) 就業，就業。例如：

The company decided to take on a new secretary. 該公司決定聘請一名新秘書。

(2) 呈現、顯示、擁有。例如：

This word had taken a new meaning. 這個詞有了新的意義。

Her face took on a new expression. 她的臉上露出了新的表情。

(3) 承擔或承擔(工作或責任等)。

(3) 占用(時間或空間)。例如:

The table takes too much room. 這張桌子太占地方了。

The work took up all of Sunday. 這項工作占用了整個星期天。

(4) 接受(乘客等)，接受(挑戰、建議、條件等)。

The bus stopped to take up passengers. 公共汽車停下來讓乘客上車。

He has taken up the bet. 他已經接受了打賭的條件。

(5) 提出(討論)，討論。例如:

There’s another matter which we ought to take up. 我們還需要討論另一件事。

9. take sb sth / take sth to sb 給某人帶(送)去某物。例如：

Take your father this glass of water. / Take this glass ofwater to your father. 把這杯水送給你父親。

Take her some flowers. / Take some flowers to her. 給她帶些花。

10. take sb (sth) for [to be]...把某人(某物)當作..

He took her smile for agreement. 他認為她的微笑是同意的。

I took him for an honest man [to be honest]. 我認為他是誠實的。

I took him for Mr Smith. 我誤以為他是史密斯先生。

注：按傳統說法：take……for 往往指不合事實的“錯誤認為” take……to be [as]它可能是指正確或不正確的“認為”，但現代英語并不完全遵循這一規則。

11. It takes (sb) some time to do sth 做某事需要時間。例如：

It took me two hours to do the maths exercises. 我花了兩個小時做數學練習。

It will take three hours to go there by bus. 坐公共汽車要三個小時。
